DOES work on Steam Deck, pick the 2022 linux recompile. The first linux version did not launch for me

Edit: as Jaime Gifte and the developer Goofte have both responded to me, only the 2022 recompile works properly

Just tried. The YouDied_BaNRY_linux 2022 re-export option works on Steam Deck.

Great game! Bought it in the racial bundle pack in 2020. However, now, I'm new to Linux (Ubuntu) and after downloading the Linux version, Ubuntu will not entertain the executable. Is there a way to solve this?

Hi! Do you have any error message or hints about this? You may be missing a library, but is hard to say off the bat

Hello! I'm afraid there isn't. I don't get any message or notification. It just does nothing.

We just put a new linux version up for download, could you try that?. It is just a re-export with a more recent GMS2 version, but should work.

If it still does not work, try opening the game through the terminal if you haven't, as that will probably print out any errors that may be happening.

Just tried. It works! Thank you so much!

Sorry for the late response. I've been pre-occupied with personal stuff, but I'm happy to report it is working with no problems, at all!

Glad to read it works! Have fun and thanks for playing!

A solid hour's diversion! I totally forgot about the slowdown key until the final stage, so that might have saved me some time, idk. Cool to see so much variety in obstacles in an ostensibly simple formula.

Very fun little challenge run. You need to run through the maze in a set amount of time, while avoiding increasingly dangerous traps that will test our reflexes and quick thinking skills. Its quick, snappy, feels good due to its small hitbox, so that ever mistake feels a result of your impatience, has a million different characters and even a decent coop and versus mode. In coop you both get to try the level at the same time, and if one of you finishes, you both advance to the next level, while versus obviously have a race to the finish. Quirky, unique and simply... fun. 4/5

I am indie game dev looking for information. What software did you use to make the stunning graphics of the game and also what game engine and what software did you use to make the sfx ? Thank you for making this awesome game !

(+4)

Game Maker Studio 2 - game engine
Aseprite - spritework
Krita - promotional art
Gamemaster Audio Pro - SFX library
BFXR - Various retro sounds

Within game maker we also used TweenGMS, a very helpful tool to do tweening

Good luck on your game dev journey! :D

And thanks for playing!

That was really quick ! Thank you and have a great day !

I got this in the racial bundle pack, and I wanted to say, it's a great game! However, I seem to have discovered a glitch. On the Mirkrooms, around every 3 floor it would give me a room where the floor would instantly vanish benith me and kill me, and then the same thing would happen again, and this would loop forever. Is there any way to fix this problem and/or has anyone else encountered this glitch? I can give more information if needed.

(1 edit) (+2)

That's a really bizarre glitch. Have you tried quitting the game, restarting and choosing to start at the mirkrooms see if it fixed it? I have an idea where the bug might be, but I am not sure if I will be able to replicate and fix it.

In the meantime try to see if a restart fixes it, otherwise if it is consistent tell me how many players or what player slot you were using.

EDIT: also! Do the platforms explode or vanish? Like they just disappear instead of going boom.

Sorry for the trouble and thanks for reporting!!

(+1)

I actually solved the glitch by uninstalling and reinstalling the game. However in case somebody else finds this glitch I'll say more about it. I was using slot one and playing on my own. The way they acted is like invisable platforms, but instead of just dissapearing, they stoped existing and I fell through.

I also found another bug where on the 1st floor with the mega traps (the ones that come from the floor and distroy 3 tiles), when they destroyed the ground, the ground would not reform and I'd be stuck, when I tried to move onto the ground that was suposed to be there, I died instantly. It never happened on the higher floors though, oddly enough, only the 1st. This was also fixed by reinstalling, but I figured documenting it would be for the best.

Thanks for replying, and I'd be happy to help if you need any more information!

(+3)

Sorry for the late reply! I am glad to read reinstalling it fixed both issues. I have tried to replicate it with no success, it sounds like a very strange glitch, I am sorry it happened to you!

Glad you like it! And sorry that you found a nasty bug. If the outline changes it means that its loading a different player slot (empty) for some reason and like you say, cannot move.

Can you tell me at what point it happens, if it is consistent or just completely random, often or rarely?, are you playing with a controller? Keyboard? If you are able to and do not mind try playing with keyboard or a different controller see if the issue continues.

Will take a look at the code and see what I can find. Again, sorry for the trouble and thank you for reporting the bug.

Thank you for the detailed report! Managed to replicate, find and fix the bug. An update to the game is up now for windows (linux next week). Here's a tip! if you press up/down when selecting a character you can change the outline's color, it's a small hidden feature.

Sorry for the trouble and thank you for playing!

Having a problem playing it on Linux. When I open it, it takes a while to start which is fine, but the menu select cycles very fast through all of the options regardless of where the mouses us or what buttons are pressed. I managed to get into the game by pressing the left mouse button quickly when the "play" option was selected, but it kept on cycling when I tried to leave the game too.

I can edit or reply with more details.

The game is really good, when I managed to play :)

We had a similar report a while ago on a Linux as well, menus take input from keyboard and all controllers connected (in that report it was a steering wheel constantly moving downwards). If you can think of anything connected that might be causing this issue, unplug it and try (and tell us what it was!). Otherwise I have no clue what could be.

Sorry for the inconvenience and we are happy to see that you were at least able to play the game!

Yeah! I have no idea what it is either :)

The only controllers I use are bluetooth-based and bluetooth was turned off. It's a laptop hooked up to an external keyboard and mouse (which I was using), with no input going to the laptop's built-in peripherals! It's super weird 🙃🙃

Unfortunately at the moment I cannot compile a linux build, but next week I'll be able to.

I have to update the game on linux for a small fix that is already live on windows, maybe that will fix this issue too. Otherwise just in case I'll be implementing a workaround so if a certain key is pressed the menus only take input from keyboard. Really sorry for the trouble.

I will poke you a reply when the update is up.

Thank you! It's totally ok! As a programmer myself I totally appreciate weird bugs hahaha

Update is up for linux!

Thank you for your patience. If the issue persists I've put two keys to test. If you press the ALT key it will ignore the mouse wheel for menus, reading online it might have something to do with it. Otherwise if you press the F1 key, menus will only listen to keyboard input.

Hopefully this works!

Green Mode is enabled by default. Retarting game doesn't work, nor does reinstalling.

(1 edit)

That's strange, just to be sure, by Green Mode we are talking about this?

If that's the case when opening the game during the BolHut animation at startup, if you hold R and then press L on keyboard, you change the shader. With gamepad it would be the R shoulder and the L shoulder. It's a hidden easter egg.

Something has to be  triggering this on startup unintentionally, check for any devices/controllers connected that might be causing this.

I just uploaded a new version of the game for Windows (cannot access Linux right now) where you have to press R+L+A at the same time hopefully it fixes the issue, please download and try it.

That was the very same  green mode, however after I restarted my COMPUTER it went back to normal (Only reason I know is I opened it prior to updating it real quick). I would, however, like to thank you for not only the quick response, but also for the fact you pretty much immediately deployed an update in order to fix the issue.

Glad to read it got fixed! You are welcome and I hope you have fun playing!

how do I turn off green?

(+1)

Hello! I do not understand what you mean by green , can you send us an image or explain what you mean by "green" ?

If the entire game looks green, restarting the game should fix it, there's an easter egg during the BolHut splash at the beginning that if you press a combination of buttons the game's shader will change. I think this would be rare to encounter randomly but could be the case.

oh! in that case I'm very lucky then :)

Indeed! :P

Just to make sure, have you encountered it again? Someone reported to find it constantly every time they open the game, just wanted to make sure if it's the case for you as well.

I have just updated the game (windows for now) hoping to fix this by adding one extra input to the easter egg ( R+L+A if you are curious)

aw, they blew my cover. I figured out that I could work around it by unplugging my controller. the update fixed it for real though.

is there a way to play with my friends if i bought this game in a bundle ?

The game only supports local play, however some people use Parsec to play online kind of like Steam Remote.

shieeeeet that program never works for me .. thx for ur reply tho <3

Anyone know how I can import these games from PC to a VITA, these are great format for a handheld!!

Not for the VITA, sorry, but the game is available on the Nintendo Switch!

Thank you for the reply. I'm planning on buying a Switch very soon. I will be purchasing on the format to represent this great game.

(1 edit)

Is it still supported? I may buy it soon or later

Hello! Im not sure I follow, but we update the game to fix any few bugs that pop up, as of now theres no big content update planned for the game but we -might- make an update here and there with something extra. I hope that answers your question.

Looks great! And a linux build is always welcome :D

Thank you! :D

Any plans to bring it to GOG.com store?

Unfortunately we got a no from GOG, maybe next game!

Hi! Looks really nice and polished reminds me old arcade games such as bubble bobble. Also loved the art just like old console boxes! Can I ask which engine you used to develope the game? Also I saw in other comments you said it did well in switch! Is it hard to get a switch developer console? I read many stories about it! Thank you!

Hello! Glad you like it! :D

Made it in GameMaker Studio 2! Regarding Switch you have to pitch your game or studio to Nintendo to get approval to develop for Nintendo Switch, they are super friendly to work with! We got the port done in less than a week.

Hmm interesting never used GameMaker Studio but hear good things abot it!! Glad that you got a deal with Nintendo must be a great experience!!! So I guess they send you a developer console and you pay for it? and does GameMaker Studio has Nintendo Switch export? Sorry for too much questions won't ask more lol :)

We are super happy with the whole experience yeah! And the game looks awesome on Switch (and as Nintendo fans is such an honor)

GameMaker Studio does have a Nintendo Switch export since last year and I hope you understand I cannot talk in detail about it. Do feel free to drop an email or DM if you have questions and I'd be happy to reply to whatever I can.

No problem I totally understand ofcourse and I am an old nintendo fan so I can imagine how exciting it was for you to publish your game on switch. Sure if I decide to purchase gamemaker for switch will contact you. Take care and good luck with your game.

Saw this on the eShop and it stood out to me so much I bought it right away. Hope this gets big.

(1 edit)

Thank you! :D

We are doing our best, so far its not getting much attention on PC but on Switch it has done very well! Either way we are extremely happy and thankful, to us its already a small big success
